International students

WIS welcomes international students to join our school. For more information please email us at international@wis.ac.nz

The school is a large Intermediate school providing education for 11-13 year olds in Y 7 & 8 in the city of Whangārei in the province of Northland. We have a diverse population representing over 25 different nationalities, reflecting the increasingly multi-cultural make up of our country. International students enrolling at the school must have a student visa to study in New Zealand. To apply please submit an application form, a photocopy of the student’s passport, a copy of the student’s birth certificate, and school reports.

We teach to the New Zealand Curriculum. This consists of eight curriculum areas including; Mathematics, English, The Arts, Technology, Science, Social Studies, Learning Languages, Health and Physical Education.

Pastoral Care of International Students

International students enhance the learning environment of our school and provide a valuable cultural student mix. We accept up to twenty international students at any one time. We are a signatory and have agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students; published by the Ministry of Education. Visa Requirements

Eligibility for health services

Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Full entitlements to publicly-funded health services are available through the Ministry of Health, and can be viewed on their website at:

Korean Visit in 2019

Five students accompanied Mr Rankin for a 14 day excursion to Korea this year. The students enjoyed a wide range of cultural experiences where they got to take in the sites, meet and stay with homestay families, sample delicious food, and experience life in Korea.
